Rovers will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the League Two table, as they host Mansfield Town at the Fully Charged New Lawn.
Here’s everything that you’ll need to know about the Stags ahead of the match.
Having previously managed Burton Albion, Derby County and Sheffield United, Nigel Clough stepped into the hot seat at the One Call Stadium with a plethora of experience, spanning over twenty years.
The 55-year-old comes from a well-known footballing background – with his father Brian recognised as one of the greatest English managers of all time, winning back-to-back European Cups with Nottingham Forest in 1979 and 1980 respectively.
Nigel Clough was appointed as the Stags’ manager in November 2020 following his departure from Burton Albion, but he endured a tricky start to the 2021/22 campaign, going 14 games without a victory.
Clough has since turned around that run of form, with his side now in contention for promotion from League Two this season.
Previously nominated for November’s League Two player of the month, Oli Hawkins has had to step into the heart of defence when required this season – as opposed to leading the line, which he has done for the entirety of his career.
Hawkins joined the club from Ipswich Town in the summer after enduring a tough stint with the Tractor Boys, netting just once during his time at Portman Road.
15/03/22 – Port Vale 3-1 Mansfield Town
22/03/22 - Rochdale 0-1 Mansfield Town
26/03/22 – Oldham Athletic 1-2 Mansfield Town
29/03/22 - Hartlepool United 2-2 Mansfield Town
02/04/22 - Mansfield Town 1-0 Northampton
Mansfield come into the fixture full of confidence, after they beat Northampton 1-0 at the weekend.
Oli Hawkins scored the decisive goal midway through the first half as the Stags set a new club record of 11 successive home wins.
Mansfield were dominant throughout, with only the heroics of goalkeeper Liam Roberts denying them a more comfortable win.
The visitors started brightly with Fraser Horsfall and Chanka Zimba having early chances but Mansfield took charge when Hawkins headed home Matty Longstaff's cross on 21 minutes.
Lucas Akins fired just wide and Stephen Quinn went close with two shots as Mansfield continued their dominance after the break.
The last meeting between the two sides came in March 2021, as Rovers claimed a point on the road against Nigel Clough’s side.
Both sides would have their chances to claim the victory, as Jamille Matt forced an excellent save from ‘goalkeeper Aiden Stone in the 58th minute from an inviting header.
Lewis Thomas would also be called upon in the Rovers’ goal, as the Welsh keeper had to deny Jordan Bowery in the final moments to ensure that his side returned to Nailsworth with a point to show for their efforts.
Rovers have a mixed record against the Stags over the years, with both sides having won an equal number of games in their history.
However, it is the Stags who claimed the last victory between the sides, registering a 2-1 victory on their last trip to the Fully Charged New Lawn in November 2020.
Rob Edwards’ side will be hopeful that history doesn’t repeat itself, and that they can claim a fourth victory over Mansfield Town in their history.
