Garrick: Wednesday win is massive for confidence

Forward reflects on memorable victory

Jordon Garrick passed a late fitness test to play against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, but there was no way the forward was going to miss the clash against the Owls.

Garrick was carrying a groin injury ahead of the game, but he's adamant that not even a broken leg would have kept him out of the game. It was the 24-year-old who scored the only goal of the game, expertly diverting home Dom Bernard's low cross to give Duncan Ferguson his first win as Rovers boss.

It was a heroic performance for FGR, putting in their best performance under Ferguson to secure a memorable victory against the League One promotion favourites.

"I'm absolutely buzzing for the boys," said Garrick. "We've been working hard on the training ground to get the win - and it's a weight off the shoulders to get it.

"We've had a few draws and last minute goals go against us, so to see it out is great. I can't praise everybody enough. It's hard to go without a win for as many games as we have done. To get the three points is fantastic.

"I had a really late fitness test to get through the game. There was no way I was missing the game. I never want to miss a game, I want to help the team as much as I can. I'd have hobbled onto the pitch even if I'd had a broken leg today."

Garrick believes the win will give Rovers a big confidence boost heading into the final eight games of the season. Rovers have a tough run of fixtures, with games against promotion hopefuls coming up in the schedule, but the win against Darren Moore's side proves that FGR can beat the very best in the division.

"You never really see games where we're completely out of it," he said. "We're always in games and we're always trying our best. It's about time we got a slice of luck. The confidence we can take from that is massive. It proves we can do it.

"It's about putting more chances away now. We need to help out the defenders. They're breaking their backs to keep the ball out of the net, and us attackers need to put it in the other net."
