The match report from Hartpury

October 30th 2023Makayla Thomas

Forest Green Rovers suffered a 5-2 defeat against Pucklechurch Sports at Hartpury on Sunday.

Rovers headed into the game off the back of a 3-2 loss away from home against AFC St Austell, while Pucklechurch Sports were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Bristol Rovers.

The first 10 minutes of the game started off equal, with both sides having multiple chances to grab a goal.

Just two minutes later, Pucklechurch took the lead, with a curled shot from Chloe Bassett headed towards the goal. Shauna Hammans was able to get fingertips to the ball, however Jess Frazer found the rebound and tapped home.

In the 16th minute, a Pucklechurch corner saw the visitors double their lead. Bassett found Chloe Rogers who got her head to the ball and the keeper couldn’t react in time.

Forest Green Rovers brought one back in the 20th minute. A through ball found Estelle Randall in the penalty area, and she slotted the ball home with a left footed finish.

Five minutes later, Rovers had another chance as Hattie Jones hit the woodwork and Sally Butterfield found the rebound and scored what she thought was an equaliser, however it was ruled out for offside.

40 minutes in, Pucklechurch made it 3-1 after a missed tackle in the Rovers defence enabled the visitors to catch them on the counter, and Bassett was able to slot away another goal.

Towards the end of the first half, Sophie Sweet made it four, with a 30-yard effort finding the top corner, giving Hammans no chance.

Georgie Marie Barbour Gresham

In the 57th minute, Georgie-Marie Barbour-Gresham had a chance for Rovers as her head met the ball, but her effort went over the goal.

Just after the hour mark, the visitors made it 5-1 with a free-kick from Kirsten Rendall as the ball bounced over the line after hitting the bar.

In the 67th minute, Rovers got one back as Randall struck the ball from just inside the box and it flew into the roof of the net, just out of reach for Ellie Soper.

The rest of the game saw Rovers pressing in attempts to get back into the game, however it wasn’t to be and Pucklechurch left with three points.

Rovers are back in action on Sunday, November 12 as they face Bishops Lydeard at Hartpury with kick-off at 2PM.
