FGR Community were delighted to host its first community lunch since pre Covid-19 pandemic last week - and it was a feast for the eyes!
If it wasn’t already a big enough day for the club, with Rovers appointing a new Head Coach last Thursday, FGR Community hosted a super-sized intergenerational community lunch with a terrific 110 attendees to beat the January blues and to act as an antithesis to the cost of living crisis post-Christmas.
It was an opportunity for old and young to share company over a good hearty vegan meal. We welcomed local residents, guests from independent living, a local care home, Age UK, a Chronic Health Group, local hospice, Dads Matters and Home Start, the councils, police, youth club and school.
Sarah Urquhart, Head of Community, said:
“We were thrilled to welcome back our guests to The Bolt New Lawn, we are very keen to bring people together to enjoy a social time and meet new people. The Thriving Community grant programme has supported over 200 organisations since 2018, investing £1.5 million in local groups across the county of which we are a key deliverer. As well as offering befriending calls and visits, it has also helped us to support individuals with a diverse range of activities that help to reduce social isolation, improve physical and mental wellbeing. We have been able to deliver projects that help people (including carers) to stay well and to live independently for as long as possible and provide that crucial social contact.”
After the event we received feedback from guests:
“I would first of all like to congratulate all those involved in the community event yesterday, it really was a fantastic experience and the food and hospitality were first class, a credit to the football club and the community itself”
"Just to say thank you so much for the lunch yesterday. It was a lovely sociable time & the food was delicious. So nice to see so many different groups of people enjoying themselves."
