Forest Green Rovers were presented with two awards at the A Greener Festival (AGF) Awards last week.
FGR were nominated for three awards in total - and ended up completing a double scoop, winning the Greener Catering Award and the Pied Piper Award. 29 events and arenas from 11 different countries were nominated for nine awards.
The club were recognised for our outstanding food by taking home the Greener Catering Award, while the Pied Piper Award recognised FGR for our 'excellent communication and PR plan which has resulted in significant cultural or behavioural changes for the greener good'.
On FGR receiving the Greener Catering Award, AGF said: "Forest Green Rovers F.C are the only vegan football club in the world, and the club is certified by the Vegan Society. Vegan certification is required from all suppliers- even extending to anyone wanting to hire the venue and provide their own catering.
"They use local suppliers, recently introducing a vegan steak and ale pie and BrewDog ale to serve at games! Pitchside displays show environmental impacts of food choices and animal cruelty. Not only that they focus on nutrition, with low salt, sugar and fat - and no sugary fizzy drinks on sale. To top it off they make healthy plant based school dinners…for about 5000 schools!"
On FGR being awarded the Pied Piper award, AGF commented: "Forest Green Rovers go above and beyond when it comes to communication, reaching out to encourage real change.
"They have an international reach, with fan clubs all over the world due to their action on sustainability. They are an ambassador for UNFCC sports for climate action, fly the Palestinian flag, and show Just Stop Oil and climate messaging pitchside during televised games.
"They have achieved a media reach of 8 million in just 12 months, and are the world's first vegan, and greenest football club, according to FIFA and UNFCC. The list goes on, and will no doubt continue to grow as FGR reach more and more people, both within and beyond the football community!"
