August 10th 2020Noah Dougherty

Forest Green Rovers are thrilled to unveil Elliott Whitehouse.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder joins Rovers on a two-year deal from Grimsby Town.

Whitehouse insisted the move to Rovers ticked all the right boxes, he  said: “It’s been a good couple of weeks getting this deal over the line. I just can’t wait to get started, meet the lads and get back to what we do best.

“When we spoke about moving to the club it just made sense to me. I see myself as an all-action midfielder, so the style of play does suit me. I’ve seen Forest Green play before, and I have always been impressed by how well they keep the ball and play with a high tempo."

Director of Football Richard Hughes endorsed the exciting capture, by saying: “He’s  different to what we have got in the group, a player we tracked for a long period of time and when speaking to the player our interest in him helped get the deal over the line.

“He’s played a lot of games at a lot of levels, got promotions on his CV. We are really delighted with the pedigree and experience he brings- he’s got energy and power and the ability to get a goal and in the best possible way, he’ll be a player, who other teams won’t like lining up against."

Beginning his football journey with Sheffield United, Whitehouse captained the Youth team that reached the FA Youth Cup Final in 2011.

Whitehouse made his first-team debut on New Year’s Day in 2013 against Doncaster, he was sent out on loan to York City at the start of the 2013/14 season, where he made 18 appearances in all competitions before returning to Bramall Lane in January.

After leaving Sheffield, Whitehouse signed for Notts County in League One after impressing with three goals while on trial with the club. Following his departure from Notts County, Whitehouse joined National League side Halifax Town, but spent just over three months with the Shaymen before heading back to Nuneaton.

He made 30 appearances in the National League North in the 2015/16 season, scoring 13 times. He made nine more appearances for the club, scoring a further six goals, before making the move to Sincil Bank.

He went on to make 34 appearances in all competitions as the Imps won the National League title, and secured their return to the Football League.
