This year has been difficult for everyone – and in their efforts to give something back to the local community, FGR Academy hosted a Christmas jumper training session.

Last Monday, Rovers' Under 7s to Under 16s age groups met at Cirencester Town wearing their very own festive attire – but instead of donating money, the players donated presents to families less fortunate than themselves.

Academy scholars also helped take part in Christmas themed sessions by delivering presents to charities HomeStart and KidsStuff – and even Santa Claus took over some coaching duties, but his footballing ability proved to be more like "John O'Sleigh" than "Ruud-olph Van Nistelrooy".

Head of Academy, Hannah Dingley, said: "We were delighted to see all of the younger players take part in this fun and interesting event. They know how important Christmas can be for people who have a lot less than others – and all of the boys understand that.

"It's important for us as an academy that we don't only develop good players, but also good people who contribute to their communities."
