This season, we’ve given our academy scholars the chance to draw back the curtain on their time in the Forest Green Rovers youth set-up.

This week, Ethan Hill is in the spotlight…

I’m enjoying my time at Forest Green, and that was helped by a good start to this season. We picked up a lot of points early on and were scoring plenty of goals.

We had a great run in the FA Youth Cup, starting with a 5-0 win over Helston Athletic at The New Lawn and it was good to have a run out in front of the fans.

It gives us a taste of what it would be like if we manage to earn a professional contract, and it shows we can get a good win and not be phased by the crowd.

It was special to play under the lights at The New Lawn, and I think it gave us all some extra confidence and a buzz to play in front of Mark Cooper.

I’m pleased with how I’ve developed over the last year and a half since joining from Southampton. I’ve learned to improve my attacking qualities as well as getting more confident at the back.

I’ve added assists to my game as well this season, but there are a few bits I’m still working hard on in training to make me a more rounded player.

It was nice for me to make the transition from Southampton to Forest Green, because both teams are similar in the way they play football, but I have noticed some differences.

FGR take a few more risks, and you’ll often see the goalkeeper coming up almost to the halfway line to add an extra player to the attack.

As a full-back I see a lot more of the ball at Forest Green than I did at Southampton, but I enjoy playing more of a key role.
