Cooper on Posh defeat and Ferguson impact

Defender says Dunc has made Rovers more robust

February 6th 2023FGR Media

Brandon Cooper says Rovers have turned into a more 'robust' side since Duncan Ferguson has taken charge.

Forest Green fell to a 2-0 defeat to Peterborough United on Saturday, with late goals from Jonson Clarke-Harris and Hector Kyprianou condemning FGR to defeat.

Rovers looked as though they were heading for a first point since January 14 and a first clean sheet since October 8, before Clarke-Harris converted from the spot in the 72nd minute.

"I thought we were good in the first half and made it difficult for Peterborough," said Cooper.

"It's disappointing because I thought we were in it for large parts of the game. The goals we've conceded are very disappointing, we need to cut stuff like that out.

"It's a frustrating game. Everybody knows they're a decent side - so we did well to limit them to what we did, but we could have done more with the ball."

Paragraph Break

While it was another defeat for Rovers, it was another encouraging performance from Ferguson's side, who frustrated Peterborough for much of the game, with the scoreline a harsh reflection of the match.

Rovers restricted Clarke-Harris - League One's top marksman - and Posh to very little, and Cooper believes FGR are now a more difficult side to play against since Ferguson has taken charge.

"He's been really good for us," Cooper said. "We haven't been able to repay him yet with the results. He's going to keep pushing us every day to do everything we can to get the points we need.

"It's a good group, we just need to find more every time we step out there. I think he'll get that out of us.

"We're a bit more of a robust team now and there's a bit more of an understanding as to what we want to do off the ball. Hopefully we can turn that into points now."
