Carey on Scarborough challenge

Assistant looks ahead to FA Cup tie

December 11th 2023Sam Yapp

Forest Green Assistant Manager, Louis Carey, says Rovers can use the energy of the home crowd to fuel their performance in their FA Cup tie with Scarborough Athletic.

Rovers travel to North Yorkshire for the second time this season for a replay of their FA Cup first round tie, looking to earn a meeting at Blackpool in round two.

“We found it a brilliant place to go, the atmosphere was incredible,” Carey said

“The energy of the crowd was brilliant and sometimes you have that use that to lift you and fuel you.”

Rovers are well educated on Tuesday’s opposition, but Carey knows the problems Scarborough can cause if Rovers aren’t prepared.

“It’s not like we don’t know what they’re all about. We’re well aware of their qualities," he said.

“The two games against us and in their previous results, they’ve shown they’re a really good side, especially at their level.

“They can cause real problems if you’re not up and ready for the challenge.

“Hopefully the quality of players we have tomorrow evening will help us come out on top.”

Carey says Rovers will field a strong side at the Flamingo Land Stadium despite the hectic schedule.

“There were a couple of lads out ill on Saturday who are now back and can hopefully get some minutes.

“We’ll go as strong as we can, respecting the opposition and the competition, to try and win it in 90 minutes,” he said.

And the uniqueness of this match means Rovers already know their potential second and third round ties.

Blackpool awaits the winner in round two, before a possible trip to Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest in round three, but Carey is fully focused on Tuesday night

He said: “You can always use it as motivation, however, we have to live in the present.”

“Yes, there’s Nottingham Forest, but before that there’s a tough trip to an in-form Blackpool and then there’s an even tougher trip to Scarborough."
