Experienced defender Ben Tozer has today announced his retirement from professional football.

He made 34 appearances in all competitions for FGR this term with just under half of those wearing the captain's armband.

The 35-year-old has enjoyed an excellent career, winning four promotions, and making 640 career appearances.

He began his career as a youth player at Plymouth Argyle before joining Swindon Town - including making a full debut in August 2007 in an EFL Cup match against Charlton Athletic.

He then moved to Newcastle United - and made his debut in September 2009 against Peterborough United - also in the EFL Cup.

A loan to Northampton Town followed - where he later made the move permanent in the summer of 2011 going on to make 199 appearances for the club.

He had spells at Yeovil Town and Newport County before joining Cheltenham Town in 2018 - captaining the club to win League Two in the 2020-21 season, playing every minute of every game.

In August 2021, Tozer signed for Wrexham - a move that would see him become a firm fans' favourite and help propel the club to new heights.

He won back-to-back promotions from the National League to League One - earning a place in the National League Team of the Year in the 2022-23 season.

Tozer joined FGR in June 2024 and helped guide the club to a third-placed finish in the National League.
