Mark Cooper speaks following his side's 2-0 home win over Macclesfield Town.
The Forest Green Rovers boss praises Farrend Rawson and Junior Mondal in a fine performance against The Silkmen. He also credits the superb support from the South Stand.
Mark, a 2-0 win at home to Macclesfield. How does that feel?
“The result is imperative, and the three points is what we’re after. Not a great performance by any stretch of the imagination but the results are more important at this point in time.”
You must be pleased with Junior Mondal. He was very lively today.
“In an attacking sense, Junior was the liveliest, he’s got that electric burst of pace that lets him glide past people and he looked like the one that was going to open the door for us.”
To open things up. Doidge can put them away from anywhere can’t he?
“I’ve not really seen the goal, but I think he just hooked it over his shoulder. That’s Doidgey, even when he’s not playing well you think he’s going to come up with a goal and that’s the sign of a top goalscorer.”
And then a good free-kick from Joseph Mills.
“I’m pleased for Millsy, he’s been really good. He’s the ultimate professional, he does everything spot on and he deserved that today, put it right in the corner and gave us a little bit of breathing space.”
Were you pleased with your defenders? The way they dealt with the likes of Harry Smith?
“Faz Rawson was outstanding today and young Nathan [McGinley] battled hard alongside him. Once we got the goal I decided to put Gavin Gunning on because I thought the only way they were going to score was from a header from Harry Smith so we put another defender on.”
The South Stand kept singing throughout the whole game. That must be pleasing to hear.
“The young lads behind the goal were outstanding, so thank you very much for that. It’s been a while since we’ve had that, and the players fully appreciate it.”
A good result against Tranmere next week and you’ll be in a great position.
“Next game. One at a time. I know I always say it and it’s boring and could wind people up but you have to focus on the next game and see where it takes you. We have four of them to do and we’re in a really strong situation with our goal difference.”
