Forest Green Rovers have signed Matt Worthington on loan from Bournemouth until January.
The 20-year-old midfielder spent the first half of last season on loan to Yeovil Town, making 19 appearances before his season was cut short by an ankle injury at the turn of the year.
He’s already made his debut for the Cherries after playing in the final match of the 2016/17 Premier League season against Leicester City.
Worthington is highly though of at Bournemouth and signed a new contract with the club in March this year.
He said: “I think what sets Forest Green apart from the majority of League Two clubs is that they like to play football. I think a lot of League Two clubs are quite direct, but that’s what I know – to play football and keep the ball on the floor - so hopefully I’ll be able to fit in easily.
“The aim will be for me to get as many games as possible and try and get a bit more experience and take that back with me.
“(Playing in) The Premier League was brilliant, it was the last game of the season and it was great to go out on a high. Obviously I enjoyed my loan spell with Yeovil last season and this year I want to kick on again and get some more games.”
Mark Cooper said: “He is a strong, box-to-box midfield player.”
“We’re probably one light in the middle of the pitch. We didn’t want to sign too many loan players but we need to make sure the squad is big enough so that if we do get injuries or suspensions, we can cope.
“Matt is someone who has had experience at the level, is a strong player and has played in the Premier League.
“He’s another one I’m looking forward to working with and think will be a good acquisition for us.”
