Troy Deeney suffered his first defeat as Forest Green manager as 10-man Rovers were defeated 4-2 by Newport County at Rodney Parade.
Deeney named an unchanged side for his second game in charge and was gifted the return of defender Marcel Lavinier to the bench on his comeback from injury.
And it didn’t take long for Rovers to open their account as inside two minutes, Kyle McAllister’s cross was turned into his own net by Ryan Delaney.
Rovers dominant start continued on 14 minutes when McAllister squared a pass towards Callum Morton, but his driven effort was smothered by Nick Townsend.
But Matty Stevens made no mistakes when an identical effort fell to him on 32 minutes and he coolly slotted Rovers' second into the bottom corner from close range.
Rovers had the lead at the break but were living dangerously as they received four of the six yellow cards brandished by the referee.
And six minutes into the second half the thin ice snapped as Callum Jones received a second booking for a late challenge and was given his marching orders.
Newport grabbed a goal back nine minutes later when Will Evans bundled home from close range.
Evans then had the game level four minutes later when he met a low cross at the back post to tap home into an empty net.
And it took just eight minutes for Newport to complete their turnaround when Lewis Payne’s volleyed cross looped over Luke Daniels and into the Rovers goal.
Newport then added a fourth on 84 minutes when Delaney scrambled the ball over the line following an uncleared corner.
It is a quick turnaround for Rovers following this defeat as we make the short trip to the County Ground for our League Two fixture with Swindon Town on Friday.
