More than 10,000 trees will be planted in the UK thanks to the ‘Netting Zero’ project from healthy drinks brand innocent. At the start of the season, the company pledged to plant 50 trees for every 0-0 ‘bore draw’ in any professional football game in the UK during the 2020/21 season, ensuring that when no one wins, the planet does.
The season, which came to an end at the weekend after the completion of the playoffs, has seen a total of 215 0-0 games that ended up ‘netting zero’. Multiplied by the 50 trees per game, this means a whopping 10,750 trees will now be planted through a partnership with One Tree Planted.

The initiative took into account results across the English Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two, as well as the Scottish Premier League, Scottish Championship, Scottish League One, Scottish League Two and the Women's Super League.
In addition, innocent is today announcing an extension of its partnership with Forest Green Rovers - officially the world’s greenest football club according to the UN - by becoming a community partner for the club, assisting in its environmental and local community outreach plans.
Throughout the 2020/2021 season, FGR worked tirelessly to support those around them, sending out over 3,000 food hampers and meals, reaching over 1,000 people through its Tackling Loneliness Campaign, delivering over 200 PPE packs and engaging with 14 care homes and sheltered housing schemes. Innocent will work with the club to deliver even greater support in the coming season with its investment, further amplifying its presence in its local community and supporting its surrounding environment.
innocent’s UK Marketing Director, Anna Bateson said, “We’ve loved partnering with Forest Green Rovers over the past year as their stadium sponsor, launching initiatives such as netting zero and showing how businesses from different fields can come together to lead the way on sustainability. The project has ensured that for every game that netted zero over the past season , the environment is the winner. We’re thrilled to remain a partner of the club for the upcoming 2021/22 season and to support the environment and local community around the club”
Dale Vince, Chairman of Forest Green Rovers, added:
“We’ve had a lot of fun with innocent this season, while spreading an important message about the planet. It’s fab to see this relationship continuing into a second season, where we can achieve more together.”
