Jordon Garrick’s 20-yard screamer was cancelled out by goals from Rekeil Pyke and Ryan Bowman, which denied Duncan Ferguson a win on his first game in charge of FGR.
The game started in the host's favour as Christian Saydee found possession deep in FGR’s half and he teed up Jordan Shipley who dragged Salop's first chance of the game wide of the post.
Forest Green then won a free kick from close range and Corey O’Keeffe stepped up to take it, but his free-kick deflected wide for a corner.
A quick succession of chances first saw Rob Street go in on goal only for his effort to be saved smartly by Doohan who dived down low to push the shot wide.
Rovers then hit the Salopians on the counter attack as Jordon Garrick picked up the ball on the left hand side, cut inside and finessed a shot beautifully into the top right corner, leaving Marko Marosi rooted to the spot.
Five minutes later, FGR were in again as centre back Oliver Casey tried to tap it in at the back post but Marosi made himself big to save the effort.
Yet another chance came in the favour of the visitors when new loanee Tyler Onyango picked up the ball and fired in a cross towards Garrick before the ball fell to Bakayoko who hit the side netting from a tight angle.
The second half began, and Rovers did originally start slightly brighter than Town.
Garrick found himself with space after turning a defender and had another shot from the edge of the box which was deflected wide by Chey Dunkley for a corner.
Bakayoko then had a chance from the edge of the box but blazed his shot over the bar.
Squandering chances certainly came back to haunt Forest Green as Shrewsbury oversaw a dominant last ten minutes.
A big save by Doohan denied Saydee but that wasn’t enough as just minutes later the ball fell to Pyke, who fired home what looked to be a late equaliser.
Matters were then made worse for Rovers when Ryan Bowman was slipped in behind to slot home a winner for Salop deep into stoppage-time.
