Forest Green Rovers made it seven wins from their opening ten games of the season as they dispatched Carlisle United 2-0 in Cumbria.

Jamille Matt and Nicky Cadden both found the net within four first-half minutes to secure the points.

Kane Wilson carved out the first half-chance of the afternoon as he turned his marker inside out on the right flank before cutting a ball back in the direction of Matty Stevens, who was unable to connect.

Brennan Dickenson had two chances in quick succession for the hosts, with both of his left-footed efforts flashing across the face of goal and wide.

Jordan Moore-Taylor went close to opening his account for the season with a header from a Cadden free-kick, before turning provider for Ebou Adams after 13 minutes, the midfielder racing through but dragging his shot wide.

With 24 minutes on the clock, a Wilson cross split Adams and Cadden at the back post with the latter firing over.

A stunning Luke McGee save after 27 minutes proved to be a pivotal moment in the game as, after he clawed away a header from point blank range, Rovers flew up the other end to take the lead.

Stevens forced a smart save to win a corner, and Ben Stevenson's ball in bounced all the way to the back post for Matt to finish after 29 minutes.

The hosts' afternoon got a lot worse just four minutes later as Cadden charged in down the left and fired a piledriver into the far corner.

Paragraph Break

The waves of FGR pressure didn't stop after the break as Stevens almost forced a Jonathan Dinzeyi own goal from Cadden's cross, but the Carlisle man recovered well to clear off the line.

With their best chances now behind them, Rob Edwards men saw the game out in fine fashion but, despite going close through Wilson and substitute Jack Aitchison, didn't find the net again.

End Stop

A stunning Luke McGee save after 27 minutes proved to be a pivotal moment in the game.
