Forest Green Rovers earned a hard-fought point on the road, as they beat Grimsby Town 2-1.

Jamille Matt's first-half penalty was cancelled out by James Hanson shortly before the break, but Ebou Adams volleyed Rovers to victory with a little over an hour on the clock.

Rovers saw four changes to the side that lost at Stevenage in midweek, Luke McGee returning between the sticks while Chris Stokes, Ebou Adams and Josh Davison also returned the the starting XI.

After a quiet start, Adams had the first shot of the afternoon as he tested Jake Eastwood from range, but the keeper was equal to his effort.

With 18 minutes on the clock, Rovers were presented with a fantastic opportunity to take the lead as Matt was caught in the area as he tried to lash home a loose ball.

The big forward made no mistake from the spot, stroking home into the bottom left-hand corner with ease.

Luke McGee, back in the side after stint on the side-line, had to be at his best to keep the score level after 26 minutes as he pounced back to his feet to deny Lenell John-Lewis after challenging Hanson in the air.

Hanson would have more luck on his side 12 minutes later though, as a mix-up the back saw him fire home with ease as the ball was presented to him in the Rovers box.

The final opportunity of the half saw Aaron Collins fire at goal after excellent hold-up play from Matt, but the Welshman's effort was well blocked on the edge of the box.

With 52 minutes on the clock, Josh Davison was inches away from another important goal in green, as he latched onto Collins' through ball before firing across the keeper and onto the base of the upright.

Collins then almost carved out a chance as he danced in from the left, but it was Adams whose fantastic volley put FGR back in the driving seat.

With 66 minutes on the clock, the Gambian unleased a rocket on his left foot from outside the area, finding the net for the first time this season.

Grimsby piled on the pressure in the dying minutes, but Mark Cooper's backline stood strong.

Adams unleased a rocket on his left foot from outside the area, finding the net for the first time this season.
