Ebou Adams produced a dramatic 90th minute winner, nodding home Regan Hendry’s free kick, as Forest Green kicked off their fifth season in the EFL with a 2-1 win against League Two first timers Sutton United, at a wet and windy Fully Charged New Lawn.

Omar Bugiel, who spent one year in the green and black between February 2017 and January 2018, equalised for the visitors in the 69th minute after heading home a David Ajiboye cross from the right-hand side.
Rovers produced a dominant second-half display, creating many big chances at 1-0 and 1-1, including a disallowed goal through Stevens after Wilson was adjudged to have gone out of play before whipping the ball into the box to be headed home.
Sutton United scored a disallowed goal of their own. Donavan Wilson thought he had equalised early in the second half, but he was adjudged to have brought down Jordan Moore-Taylor in the lead up to the finish.
Rovers endured a feisty first half, with both Dom Bernard and Jordan Moore-Taylor being yellow carded after the pair both produced fouls to halt promising Sutton United counter attacks.
1,883 fans turned up to watch the first triumph for the new manager, Rob Edwards, in his first competitive match in charge of the club and the first match with under no coronavirus restrictions since March 2020.
Next up for Rovers is a tough Carabao Cup match up against Championship side Bristol City at The Fully Charged New Lawn on Tuesday, with Edwards and the boys hoping to carry on from the positive start to the league season.
