Rovers fell to their first League One defeat of the season after Ipswich Town secured a 2-1 win at The Bolt New Lawn.
A quick paced start to the match led to chances coming in thick and fast for both teams to begin with, although it was Ipswich who had the lions’ share of possession.
Jamille Matt came close early on for Rovers as substitute Dom Bernard played a brilliant ball through to him before Christian Walton rushed out well to save Matt’s effort, it then rebounded back off him for an Ipswich goal kick.
From this The Tractor Boys then instantly responded as Leif Davies progressed well down the left-hand side before the ball fell on the edge of the box to Marcus Harness who smashed one into the roof of the net to make it 0-1.
Town continued to dominate before something special happened. Wes Burns teed up Sam Morsy on the edge of the box who beautifully curled one right into the top-drawer leaving Luke McGee with no chance. Unstoppable effort.
The second half began much quieter to begin with due to Ipswich controlling possession as they looked to see out their 0-2 victory.
Forest Green, however, were searching for a comeback as David Davis was replaced by Josh March where he was put alongside Matt with Brown dropping into a number ten role.
Rovers then made two more important changes before getting one back as a nice passage of play down the right-hand side saw substitute Little’s original effort saved by Walton before March put it in to made it 1-2.
This certainly fired up The Bolt New Lawn who were in fine voice, striving their team on.
A Rovers corner saw Matt leap highest whose header found the back of the net, the entire stadium thought they’d made it level before noticing the linesman with his flag up for offside.
This didn’t put down the home side who then had two efforts saved incredibly by Walton in the Ipswich net. March and Robertson both looked certain to score.
FGR will feel quite hard done by as March was played through in the 90th minute only to be brought down by last man Cameron Burgess who only received a yellow card despite denying a goal-scoring opportunity.
Overall it was a positive display by Rovers, despite coming away with nothing, they fought well against a promotion tipped side and showed moments of quality.
