17 minutes into the game, Myles Peart-Harris was booked for hacking down Ryan Broom as Cheltenham Town were on the attack.
Rovers took the lead in the 24th minute to score the opener, when a pinpoint ball was whipped in by Harry Boyes and was nodded in by an unmarked Josh March to break the deadlock.

Jamille Matt nearly doubled the lead for Forest Green as his effort from 25 yards out whistled just past the post.
Right before half-time, the visitors nearly equalised as Elliot Bonds played Broom in, but his shot kissed the post.
The away side levelled as a cross from the left-hand side was nodded in by Broom to make it 1-1.
The final chance of the game went to Cheltenham as Bonds struck a tame shot which was saved comfortably by Thomas.
Connor Wickham and March failed to convert from the spot in the shootout as Cheltenham progressed to the next round.
