Port Vale inflicted a first defeat in the league this season for FGR with 2-0 victory.

A brace inside the first 10 minutes by Jamie Proctor secured the three points for the Valiants at The Fully Charged New Lawn.

Rob Edwards made seven changes to the side that lost to Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, bringing back in a host of regular starters, including club captain Jamille Matt.

The visitors took an early lead in the 6th minute, after Proctor slammed home the first of his two goals into the roof of the net from inside the box after a James Wilson lay off.

Shortly after, Proctor netted his second of the match from a Port Vale counterattack, after Ben Garrity stole the ball from Dom Bernard and squared for Proctor to trickle the ball into the net.

Port Vale could have extended their lead further in the second half, but Luke McGee produced a terrific save from a Garrity effort after a surging run from the Vale midfielder.

Rovers were restricted to very few chances throughout the game, but Jake Young came close to pulling a goal back late on, creating space for himself on the edge of the area before firing narrowly wide.

Rob Edwards’ team will be looking to bounce back and get back to winning ways in midweek, as next up they compete in the Football League Trophy, with a home tie against Northampton Town.
