Forest Green Rovers lost 1-0 against Walsall at The Fully Charged New Lawn bringing an end to their 19 game unbeaten run in League Two.

A tricky battle against Storm Eunice put the clash in jeopardy, but after tireless work from the grounds staff and two pitch inspections, it was game on.

Rob Edwards named an unchanged 11 from the 1-1 draw against Sutton United with Regan Hendry returning to the bench after his recent injury.

Just four minutes into the action at The Fully Charged New Lawn and Rovers very nearly had the lead. Nicky Cadden made the space before playing a dangerous cross from the far side, but Matty Stevens could only turn the ball over the crossbar from close range.

The away side threatened to take the lead not long after and eventually did on 11 minutes as George Miller put the Saddlers ahead. Emmanuel Osadebe advanced well before sliding in Miller who raced in on goal finishing well past Luke McGee.

The game became cagey after that and It was a real battle that saw three yellows in the first half on a sticky pitch that deteriorated throughout the 90. Miller came close to a second five minutes before the break as he let fly from range, but his shot rose just over the bar in front of the South Stand.

Rovers almost drew level in the last real action of the first half as Bailly Cargill stormed forward before his shot deflected and looped just over the bar onto the roof of the net.

After the break, and again the away side looked to put the game out of sight. Osadebe luckily opted for cross over shot as the chance came to nothing. It was a good response from Edwards’ men however as both Jack Aitchison and Stevens came almightily close to levelling things in the coming minutes.

Rovers began to grow into proceedings and Cadden was next to come close, as his fizzed cross come shot had to be diverted behind by the busy Carl Rushworth.

In a very back and forth affair Walsall’s Osadebe didn’t hesitate to shoot with the next chance he had, firing a left footed strike just over the bar.

Sadou Diallo, Kasey McAteer and Dan Sweeney were introduced as the second half progressed as Rovers search for an equaliser just couldn’t pick up any traction.

Into the final 10 minutes and Cadden again was the source of a Rovers chance as Rollin Menayese diverted the Scots cross agonisingly over the bar.

Five minutes of added time were indicated by the fourth official and Cargill like he did in the first half ventured forward but his long range effort strayed wide in Rovers’ last real effort.

It just wasn’t meant to be for Rovers on the day as their mammoth 19 game unbeaten run reached its climax.
