Rovers came away from the capital with a point as they drew 1-1 with Charlton Athletic at the Valley on Tuesday evening.
Boss Ian Burchnall made three changes from the win over Accrington Stanley as Regan Hendry and Jordan Moore-Taylor came back into the starting XI alongside Bryan Fiabema for his first start.
In a slow paced first half Rovers started brightly but found themselves behind on nine minutes as Jack Payne rolled it into the path of Corey Blackett-Tylor who fired home into the top corner.
Blackett-Taylor came close to adding a second just five minutes later as he broke in behind the Rovers backline but his low drive could only find the side netting.
10 minutes before the break Charlton came knocking again as Jesurun Rak-Sakyi rose highest and headed toward goal only to be denied by the outstretched arm of Luke McGee.
But moments before half-time Rovers were back on level terms largely thanks to a mistake from Addicks keeper Jojo Wollacott.
The former Rovers shot stopper failed to collect a Dom Bernard cross from the near side dropping the ball straight into the path of Connor Wickham who rolled home his second goal in a Rovers shirt.
Into the second half and Bernard came close himself not long after the restart cutting in from the left before curling an audacious attempt just over the bar onto the roof of the net.
And Rovers continued to pressure the hosts as Hendry curled an effort just wide of the far post before a scramble in the box eventually saw Charlton clear their lines.
On 65 minutes Wickham almost had a second as his downward header from a whipped Hendry corner drifted agonisingly wide of the far post.
Fiabema was next to come close as Corey O’Keeffe raced down the right flank before his ball to the Chelsea loanee was just out of reach for the front man to divert home.
The hosts had two good chances to regain the lead 15 minutes from time as substitute Jayden Stockley couldn’t direct his header on target before being denied by McGee moments later.
There was some controversy late on as Ryan Inniss was sent off for the hosts deep into stoppage time after clattering into Christian Marques in the box.
And Rovers would withstand the late pressure from Charlton to ensure they headed back to Gloucestershire with a well-earned point.
