Forest Green Rovers fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Barnsley as goals from Devante Cole and Josh Martin downed Rovers at Oakwell.
Rovers Head Coach Ian Burchnall named two changes from the 1-1 draw with Fleetwood Town as Josh March and Dom Bernard came into the starting XI.
It was a slow start at in Yorkshire but on 15 minutes it was a case of first real chance first goal as the hosts took the lead.
A cross from the right by Jordan Williams found Cole in the area who did well to power his header past Lewis Thomas into the right bottom corner.
Barnsley weren’t far from a second on the half hour mark when James Norwood laid it back to Herbie Kane on the volley – but his effort rose over the crossbar.
It was an opening 45 that saw Rovers have the majority of possession but fail to register a shot as they went at the break a goal behind.
Rovers would have their first effort not long after the interval, but Harry Boyes could only drag his volley wide of goal not troubling Brad Collins in the Tykes goal.
On the hour mark and the hosts came close to a second once again as Liam Kitching’s effort was well cleared off the line by Boyes after a corner from the far side.
They came close on two occasions not long after, but Thomas was equal to both doing superbly to stop Cole’s header before denying Norwood from close range.
Rovers tried to find a way back into the clash but the closest they came was through substitute Armani Little whose volley went wide of the mark.
The hosts would make sure of the points seven minutes from time when substitutes Slobodan Tedic and Josh Martin combined to settle the score.
It could’ve got worse for Rovers late on, but Thomas made another excellent save this time denying Tedic from netting a goal of his own.
